Required Continuing Education Hours

Life and Health Producers

24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term (see license term below). Tennessee has category restrictions. See CE Subject Requirements below. Producers planning to sell the following product(s) have special training or education requirements as described below:

Special Training/Education Requirements

Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Initial 8-hour training requirement: Before selling, soliciting or negotiating LTC insurance products in Tennessee, producers must complete an initial 8-hour training course. (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s Long-Term Care: Programs, Policies, and Partnerships course, which fulfills this requirement.)
  • Ongoing 4-hour training requirement: After meeting the initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training in every 24-month period following the initial training. (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s Tennessee Long-Term Care 4-Hour Training course, which fulfills this requirement.)

Property and Casualty Producers

24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term (see license term below). Tennessee has category restrictions. See CE Subject Requirements below. Producers planning to sell the following product(s) have special training or education requirements as described below:

Special Training/Education Requirements

Flood Insurance

Resident producers who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 3-hour course approved for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s National Flood Insurance Program: What You Must Know course, which fulfills this requirement.)

Public Adjusters

24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term (see license term below). Tennessee has category restrictions. See CE Subject Requirements below.

Multi-Peril Crop Adjusters

24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term (see license term below). Tennessee has category restrictions. See CE Subject Requirements below.

Combination Multi-Peril Crop Adjuster and Life and Health OR Property and Casualty Producers

48 CE hours, including 4 hours of ethics, are required every 2 year license term (see license term below). Tennessee has category restrictions. See CE Subject Requirements below.

Roster Fees

A roster fee of $1.00 per CE hour is required to process course completion hours in Tennessee and will be added to the order upon checkout.

Nonresident CE Requirements

Nonresident producers planning to sell Long-Term Care (LTC) have special training or education requirements as described below:

  • Initial 8-hour training requirement: Before selling, soliciting or negotiating LTC insurance products in Tennessee, producers must complete an initial 8-hour training course. (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s Long-Term Care: Programs, Policies, and Partnerships course, which fulfills this requirement.)
  • Ongoing 4-hour training requirement: After meeting the initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training in every 24-month period following the initial training. Nonresident producers who have completed a Long-term care training requirement for another state will satisfy the training requirements for Tennessee

License Term

The license term is the last day of the licensee’s birth month every 2 years. Licensees who were born in an even-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in even-numbered years.  Licensees who were born in an odd-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years.

CE Subject Requirements

  • Category restrictions: Of the 24-hour CE requirement, 3 hours must be in ethics. Any Tennessee-approved insurance CE course counts toward the 24-hour requirement. Courses can be completed in any license type for credit.
  • Course presentation: Online and paper self-study
  • Study requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements: Non Monitored Exam – Open Book Exams. You may refer to the Course Material as often as you need to complete the exam.
  • Exam rules: Self-study final exams are open book. Students may refer to the course material as often as needed. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. Students have unlimited retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

Producers may carry over a maximum of 12 excess credit hours to the next license term. However, this carryover allowance does not apply to ethics CE credit requirements. Excess ethics hours will be counted as general credit  Any course hours carried over to the next renewal will be counted as duplicate if the same course is taken again.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within 2 calendar years from the previous  completion date.

Certificate of Completion

WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Tennessee. Certificates of completion will be available to print online immediately after a final exam is passed. Producers must keep the original certificates of completion in their files for 2 years.

CE Completion Reporting

Next-day Reporting – WebCE reports course completions to State Based Systems (SBS) every business day.

License Renewal Process

Producers whose licenses are current and who are within their license term may renew their licenses online: CLICK HERE

Your renewal application will be fully posted into the Department’s licensing system within 2 business days. Your license will be sent to you by the state as soon as your renewal application has been fully processed.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from CE requirements:

  • Limited Lines producers
  • Public adjusters licensed less than 1 full year
  • An insurance producer who has been continuously licensed since January 1, 1994.
  • Nonresident public adjusters who have met the CE requirements in their home state, which MUST reciprocate with TN, are not required to complete CE requirements for Tennessee.

In addition, producers who have been licensed continuously since Jan. 1, 1994, are still required to complete the initial LTC 8-hour requirement, but they are exempt from the ongoing training 4-hour LTC course.

Roster Fees

  • State Specific Long Term Care Training: If a producer has taken the initial 8-hour long-term care partnership course for another state, they must complete a state-approved Medicaid training course before selling LTC insurance products in South Dakota. (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s South Dakota Medicaid course.)

License Term

Beginning October 1, 2010 expiration dates will be calculated using the end of the licensee’s birth month.  South Dakota will convert existing producer licensees to end of birth month expiration dates.

 

The license term is 2 years, expiring on the last day of the producer’s birth month.

Resident producers: Effective April 1, 2012, resident producers will renew on the last day of their birth month every two years.  Agents who renewed on April 30, 2010, can find their next renewal deadline on South Dakota’s Renewal Deadline Table.

Note:  The CE Assigned Review date will be changed so that it becomes the same as the license expiration date.

CE Subject Requirements

Category restrictions:

    • General credit hours may be applied to either life/health or property/casualty credits but not crop/hail.
    • Life/Health AND Property/Casualty = 20 CE credits; CE credits should be EITHER:
      • 10 L/H CE credits and 10 P/C CE credits or
      • a minimum of 8 CE credits in each license held. (additional CE hours needed should be in L/H or P/C)
    • Crop/Hail AND Life/Health = 10 CE credits (2 Crop/Hail CE credits and 8 L/H CE credits)
    • Crop/Hail AND Property/Casualty = 10 CE credits (2 Crop/Hail CE credits and 8 P/C  CE credits)
    • Crop/Hail, Life/Health AND Property Casualty = 20 CE credits. In the case of a multi-line license the maximum crop/hail CE is 2 hours. This could be taken as:
      • 2 CE credits in Crop/Hail, 10 CE credits in Life/Health, and 8 CE credits in Property/Casualty, OR
      • 2 CE credits in Crop/Hail, 12 CE credits in Life/Health, and 6 CE credits in Property/Casualty, OR
      • 2 CE credits in Crop/Hail, 8 CE credits in Life/Health, and 10 CE credits in Property/Casualty
    • A producer may not receive more than one-half of the required CE hours during any 2-year period from courses sponsored by any one insurance company.
  • Course presentation: Online and paper self-study
  • Study Requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements: Self-study final exams are open book and do not require a proctor.
  • Exam rules: Self-study final exams are open book.  Producers may refer to the course material as often as needed during the exam.  The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit.  If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

No excess hours may be carried over into a new license term. All courses must be completed in the period for which they will be reported.

Course Repetition Rules

Courses may not be taken more than once in a 2-year license term.

License Renewal Process

A nonrefundable $20 licensing fee is payable at www.sircon.com/southdakota. If the licensing renewal and $20 fee is not completed through Sircon by the due date, producers’ licenses will lapse and appointments will be terminated.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from South Dakota’s CE requirements:

  • Producers who have reached the age of 65 prior to July 1, 2006, and as of July 1, 2006, have had at least 10 years’ experience as a licensed producer
  • A producer holding a limited license to sell only credit life and credit health insurance
  • A producer outside the United States or its territories
  • A producer who is a resident attorney licensed to practice law in South Dakota
  • A producer who is a transportation ticket producer of common carriers holding a limited license to sell only travel accident and baggage insurance
  • A producer who is an employee of a trade association holding a limited license to sell only surety bonds to its association members
  • A producers who is licensed to sell only bail bonds

Limited lines producers are exempt from CE requirements (examples include limited lines credit insurance, travel accident insurance, and rental car insurance producers).

Producers must notify the South Dakota Division of Insurance in writing if he/she falls under one of the exemption categories.

*Effective January 1, 2011: All producers born in odd years, that were licensed prior to January 1, 2010, will be required to obtain 12 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, by 5pm eastern on the last day of their birth month in 2011.  Producers will be required to obtain 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, every 2 year license term thereafter (see license term below). Nonresident CE Requirements

Nonresident producers who meet the CE requirements of their home states do not have to comply with South Carolina CE requirements

Nonresident producers who have not completed a Long-Term Care Partnership training course in their home state or another state with a Long-Term Care Partnership training requirement are required to take the South Carolina Long-Term Care Partnership training course.

License Term

*Effective January 2011: The license term is the last day of the licensee’s birth month, by 5pm eastern, every odd-or-even year based on the year the licensee was born.

  • 2011 Renewals: All producers born in odd years, that were licensed prior to January 1, 2010, will be required to obtain 12 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, by 5pm eastern on the last day of their birth month in 2011. For example, a licensee born in January 1971 will need to have their entire CE completed by 5pm eastern on January 31, 2011, and every two years thereafter.
  • 2012 Renewals: All producers born in even years, that were licensed prior to January 1, 2010, will be required to obtain 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, by 5pm eastern on the last day of their birth month in 2012.  For example, a licensee born in March 1980 will need to have all CE completed by March 31, 2012, and every two years thereafter.
  • For licensees who become newly licensed on or after January 1, 2010: All licensees newly licensed on or after January 1, 2010, must complete 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, by 5pm eastern on the last day of their birth month every odd-or-even numbered year.   Click here to determine your CE requirements and license renewal fee due.

CE Subject Requirements

  • 2011 Renewal Category Restriction: For producers renewing in 2011, 3 of the 12 hours must be in approved ethics. There are no other category restrictions for producers renewing in 2011 only.
  • 2012 Renewal Category Restriction: Producers who hold a dual property and casualty license and a life, accident, and health license must complete at least 8 of the required 24 CE hours in courses related to each of these lines of authority.
    • Courses approved stating “meets state ethics requirement ONLY” will count as ethics only and excess hours will be carried forward to the next renewal period.
  • Course presentation: Online self-study
  • Study requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements: Exams to be Monitored by a Disinterested Third Party. Monitors must be a Disinterested Third Party and shall NOT serve for examinations of: family members or relatives or dependents, employers or supervisors, or for anyone in whom the proctor or instructor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination.
  • Exam rules: Exams are closed book. A score of 70 percent or higher is needed to pass. You will have unlimited retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

Producers may carry over a maximum of 18 credit hours to the next license renewal period. Excess hours of an ethics course will be carried over as general credit. Courses carried forward will count as a duplicate if completed again in the current renewal cycle.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be repeated within 2 calendar years of the original completion date.

License Renewal Process

All producers licensed in South Carolina as of June 2, 2009 are required to renew their producer license and pay a $25 license renewal fee by the last day of their birth month.

The $25 license renewal fee is payable as a part of the online producer license renewal process. Producers receiving a CE exemption are still required to renew their license and pay the $25 license renewal fee by the last day of their birth month.

**For licensees renewing in 2011, the license renewal fee is $12.50.

In addition to the license renewal fee, producers are also subject to an annual CE reporting fee of $7.50.  This fee is payable to Prometric and the reporting fee for each year of the compliance period is required to be paid by the last day of the producers birth month.

CE Exemptions

Nonresidents are exempt form the Long-Term Care Partnership requirement if they have completed the LTC requirement in their home state or another state with a Long-Term Care Training course.

The following individuals are exempt from all CE requirements:

  • Nonresident producers who meet the CE requirements of their home states do not have to comply with South Carolina CE requirements.
  • A licensee holding a limited license to sell only credit life, credit health insurance, bail bonds and travel accident and baggage insurance;
  • A licensee outside the United States or its territories;
  • A licensee who is a resident attorney licensed to practice law in the state;
  • A licensee who is an employee of a trade association holding a limited license to sell only surety bonds to its association members;
  • A licensee who has reached the age of 65 prior to July 1, 2006 and has been licensed for at least 10 years or who have reached 65 after July 1, 2006 and have been licensed for at least 10 years and who no longer sell, solicit or negotiate insurance.

The producer must notify the Division office in writing if he/she falls under one of the exempt categories

Rhode Island Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Required Continuing Education Hours

Life and Health Producers

24 CE hours, including 3 hours in ethics, are required every 2-year license term. (See “License Term” below)

Producers planning to sell the following products have special training or education requirements as described below:

Special Training/Education Requirements

Annuity Training Requirement

  • *Effective June 1, 2011:  All producers currently licensed to sell, solicit, and negotiate annuity products must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours by December 1, 2011.  All producers licensed on or after June 1, 2011 must complete this training prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating such products.  (MyCEonline/ WebCE’s Annuity Training course coming soon.)

Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Rhode Island, producers must complete an initial 8-hour NAIC LTC course approved in any state. (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s Long-Term Care Programs, Policies, and Partnerships course, which fulfills this requirement.)
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the 8-hour initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training every 24-month period. Property and Casualty Producers

Producers who write flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour training class on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Nonresident CE Requirements

License Term

The license renewal date is the last day of the producer’s birth month, every 2 years.

CE Subject Requirements

  • Category restrictions: A minimum of 5 hours must be completed in each line held by the producer.
  • Course presentation: Licensees can take courses through self-study, online or paper.
  • Study requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking a closed-book, proctored final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements: Self-study final exams must be proctored by a disinterested third party. The disinterested third party can be any impartial person who is not concerned with the result of the examination or the success of the student. The monitor cannot be related (by family) to the student. (Examples of impartial persons are secretaries, teachers, librarians, church leaders, neighbors, etc.)
  • Exam rules: Self-study final exams are closed book. Producers may not refer to the course material while the exam is in progress. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

A maximum of 12 hours may be carried over to the next 2-year license term. Excess ethics hours will be carried over as general hours.

Course Repetition Rules

Courses maynot be taken for credit more than once within a renewal cycle.

CE Completion Reporting

Next-day reporting - WebCE reports course completions every business day to State-Based Systems (SBS).

Certificate of Completion

WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Rhode Island. Certificates of completion are available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. Licensees are required to maintain a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her files.

Resident and nonresident licensees can renew their licenses here.

If renewing online, after completing the online renewal process, a copy of the transaction confirmation page with copies of the certificates of completion should be faxed to the Department of Business Regulations.

If renewing by paper, attach copies of certificates of completion and submit with the renewal form.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Rhode Island CE requirements:

  • Residents holding licenses for which a licensing examination is not required
  • Limited line credit insurance licensees
  • Adjusters and appraisers
  • Nonresident licensees who meet the CE requirements established by the insurance department in their home state if the home state is reciprocal with the State of Rhode Island. Nonresident producers are not exempt from the NAIC LTC training requirement. See “Nonresident CE Requirements” above for further information.
  • Individuals who are at least 55 years old at the time of renewal and have been licensed continuously for 25 years without lapse.
  • Individuals who are at least 60 years old by July 3, 2004 and have been licensed continuously for at least 20 years without lapse at the time of renewal.

License Term

The license term is every 2 years, based on the last day of the producer’s birth month.  Producers who were born in an even-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in even-numbered years.  Producers who were born in an odd-numbered year will be required to complete their CE in odd-numbered years.

CE Subject Requirements

  • Category restrictions: Producers may complete their 24-hour CE requirement by taking courses approved only for the line of authority licensed for.  A minimum of 3 hours must be in a course approved for ethics, and a minimum of 3 hours must be in a course approved for Orgeon Insurance Law.
  • Course presentation: Producers may complete the Oregon CE requirements through self-study.  The self-study course and exam can be either paper or online.
  • Paper Study requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking the proctored final exam.
  • Online Study requirements: Students must read the course material and answer each set of end-of-chapter quizzes with a score of at least 70 percent prior to taking a closed book non-proctored final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements:
    • Online, self-study courses DO NOT require a monitor.
    • Paper-based courses and exams are required to be proctored by a state-registered proctor or a third party who is one of the following: a city, county or state public librarian; an employee of a state college or university; an employee of a private college or university other than those that are owned by or operated primarily for the insurance industry; an employee of a law office; or a currently licensed certified public accountant.
  • Exam rules:
    • Online: Once the exam is opened for an online course, access to the course material is restricted until the exam has been graded.
    • Paper: The final exam for paper-based courses is closed book, and no outside information may be used to complete the exam.

The final exam for all delivery methods must be passed with a 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next 2-year license term.

Course Repetition Rules

A course may not be taken for credit more than once within a 2-year license term.

CE Completion Reporting

MyCEonline/ WebCE does NOT report course completions to the Oregon Insurance Division. Producers can submit renewal forms and copies of the certificates of completion to the Insurance Division by the license expiration.  The renewal form is mailed by the Oregon Insurance Division to the producer’s last resident mailing address on file.  Renewal forms are mailed out approximately 75 days before the license expiration date.  In lieu of sending license renewal forms to the Oregon Insurance division, producers can also renew online (see license renewal process below).

Certificate of Completion

MyCEonline/ WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Oregon. Certificates of completion will be available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. Producers must keep copies of each certificate of completion in his or her files for 3 years after course completion.

License Renewal Process

Producers can renew their license online at www.nipr.com.
Producers who renew online will still need to send the certificates of completion to the Insurance Division.

CE Exemptions

Producers are exempt from CE requirements if ALL of the following are true:

  • The producer is 58 years of age or older.
  • The producer has 10 years or more of licensed experience.
  • The producer surrenders all license classes, except life.
  • The producer only services existing life insurance policies.

In order to qualify for an exemption if all of the above is true, producers must submit the Continuing Education Exemption Request Form (form 3634) to the Insurance Division for review. For the Oregon exemption form, please click here.

Annuity Training Requirement:

Producers licensed to sell, solicit, or negotiate annuity products prior to July 14, 2010 must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours before July 14, 2011. Producers licensed on or after July 14, 2010, must complete this training prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating such products. Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Oklahoma, producers must complete an initial 8-hour NAIC LTC course approved in any state. Medicare Advantage Training Requirement:

  • Initial 8-hour Medicare Advantage training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiation Medicare Advantage or Medicare Private Fee-for-Service products and plans, producers must complete an initial 8-hour approved training course in addition to the standard 24 hour CE requirement in Oklahoma.   • Ongoing 4-hour Medicare Advantage training requirement: After completing the 8-hour initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of continuing education related to Medicare Advantage products and plans in all subsequent 2-year compliance periods. This four hour course can be applied towards the producer’s CE requirement. Special Training/Education Requirements

 

OK Workers Compensation Act

*Effective November 1, 2010: All adjusters who adjudicate workers’ compensation claims in Oklahoma are required to complete 6 CE hours of CE related to the Workers’ Compensation Act as part of the 24 CE hours required.  (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s Oklahoma Workers Compensation, which fulfills this requirement.)

Viatical Settlement Brokers

4 CE hours, including 3 hours in viaticals and 1 hour in ethics, are required every 2-year license term. (Go to the course catalog to order MyCEonline/ WebCE’s Viatical and Life Settlements: The Life Insurance Secondary Market course, which fulfills this requirement.)

A life insurance producer who is operating as a viatical settlement broker is not subject to this continuing education requirement; see “Life and Health Producers” section above for CE requirements.

Roster Fees

A roster fee of $1.00 per credit hour ordered is required to process course completion hours in Oklahoma and will be added ot the order total upon checkout.

Nonresident CE Requirements

If the producer has not taken a NAIC LTC training course in another state, the nonresident producer selling LTC must comply with the Oklahoma LTC training requirements:

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Oklahoma, producers must complete an initial 8-hour NAIC LTC course approved in any state.   • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the 8-hour initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of LTC training every 24-month period. Nonresident adjusters are required to comply with Oklahoma’s CE requirement by:

  • being licensed and in good standing as a nonresident adjuster in Oklahoma and completing Oklahoma’s continuing education requirement by an approved provider. (See “Adjusters” section above.); or
  • being licensed and in good standing as a resident adjuster in a state that has a continuing education requirement for its resident adjusters; or
  • being licensed and in good standing as a nonresident adjuster in a state or designated “Home State” that has a continuing education requirement for its nonresident adjusters.

Please Note: Simply being licensed and in good standing in another state does not exempt a nonresident adjuster licensed in Oklahoma from this state’s CE requirement if that other state does not officially require CE course completion.

License Term

The license term is every 2 years based on the license issuance date . Licenses issued in even years will renew in even years. Licenses issued in odd years will renew in odd years.

Newly licensed producers and adjusters may not earn CE credits during the first month of licensure.

Example: If a license is effective on March 7, 2010, the licensee must wait until April 1, 2010 to earn continuing education credits.

CE Subject Requirements

  • Category restrictions: Courses must be approved for lines of insurance for which a license is held.
    • Adjusters who renew in July, August, or September 2010 have been granted special exceptions. Click here to read the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner’s Special Bulletin.

The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

A maximum of 6 hours may be carried over to the next 2-year license term. Excess hours may also be applied to bring a lapsed license into compliance.

Course Repetition Rules

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once within 2-years from the original completion date.

CE Completion Reporting

Certificate of Completion

MyCEonline/ WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Oklahoma. Certificates of completion are available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. Licensees are required to maintain a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her files for 4 years.

The following are exempt from CE requirements:

  • Limited insurance representatives
  • Nonresident producers whose home state is reciprocal with Oklahoma and whose home state’s CE requirements are the same or greater than Oklahoma’s
  • Nonresident adjusters whose license is in good standing and who have completed the continuing education requirements for another state. Please see “Nonresident CE Requirements” above.
  • Producers who have not, will not, or shall no longer, sell, solicit, or negotiate Medicare Advantage or Medicare Private Fee for Service products and plans are exempt from the Medicare Training requirement.

CE Subject Requirements

  • Category restrictions: Life/Health and Property/Casualty producers can complete 21 CE hours in any line of authority and 3 hours in approved ethics.
  • Course presentation: Producers can take courses through online and paper-based self-study.
  • Study requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements: Self-study final exams are open book. Students may refer to the course material as often as needed.
  • Exam rules: The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next 2-year license term.

Course Repetition Rules

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a 2-year license term.

Certificate of Completion

MyCEonline/ WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in Ohio. Certificates of completion are available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. The licensee must keep a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her files for 3 years.

CE Completion Reporting

Next-day Reporting – WebCE reports course completions electronically to Sircon every business day.

CE Exemptions

The following licensees are exempt from continuing education requirements:

  • Persons holding a limited authority license

  • Persons granted inactive license status by the State Director of Insurance

Roster Fees

A roster fee of $1.00 per credit hour ordered is required to process course completion hours in North Dakota and will be added ot the order total upon checkout.

License Term

The license expiration date is the last day of the producer’s birth month every 2 years. For more information, see detail below.

Licensees may track credits and verify expiration date at SBS Connect. Click here to access. There is no fee, but you must register to use this free service.

For licenses issued:

  • 2007 whose previous renewal date was January 31, 2010, the current renewal date is on the last day of the producer’s birth month 2010.
  • 2008 whose previous renewal date was January 31, 2010, the current renewal date is on the last day of the producer’s birth month 2011.
  • 2009 whose previous renewal date was January 31, 2010, the current renewal date is on the last day of the producer’s birth month 2012.

CE Subject Requirements

  • Category restrictions: There are no category restrictions in North Dakota. Any course approved for CE in North Dakota may be taken for credit.
  • Course presentation: Producers can take online or paper-based self-study.
  • Study requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking an open-book final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements: Self-study final exams are open book and do not require a proctor.
  • Exam rules: Self-study final exams are open book. Producers may refer to the course material as often as needed while the exam is in progress. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

A maximum of 12 hours earned only in the second half of a 2-year license term may be carried over to the next reporting period. Ethics hours may not be carried forward and must be completed within each 2-year license term.

Course Repetition Rules

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a producer’s 2-year licensing term.

Certificate of Completion

MyCEonline/ WebCE provides online, printable certificates in North Dakota. Certificates of completion are available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. Because WebCE reports CE credits directly to SBS, producers are only required to maintain a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her files for verification.

CE Completion Reporting

Next-Day Reporting – WebCE reports course completions electronically to State Based Systems (SBS) every business day.

License Renewal Process

Residents must be CE compliant before submitting their renewal.  Resident and nonresident licensees can renew their license online here.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from North Dakota CE requirements:

  • Individuals licensed exclusively for the sale of legal expense insurance, title insurance, travel baggage insurance, surety bonds, bail bonds, and credit life/accident & health insurance
  • Individuals who are at least 62 years old and whose combined total continuous years of license plus their age equals 85 or more
  • Newly licensed individuals for the calendar year in which they are first licensed; but beginning January 1 of the year following licensing, CE requirements apply
  • Nonresident producers who meet their home state CE requirements

  • Public Adjuster’s license term ends on 12/31 of even-numbered years.

CE Subject Requirements

  • Category restrictions: Licensees must complete their CE requirement by taking courses approved only in the line of authority licensed for.
  • Course presentation: Licensees may complete the New York CE requirements through self-study. The self-study course and exam can be either paper or online.
  • Study requirements: Students should read the course material prior to taking the final exam.

Final Exam Requirements

  • Exam proctor requirements: Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a state-approved monitor. A list of CE monitors approved by New York can be found here.
  • New York State Monitor Approval Documents: Upon renewal of the monitor approval every 2 years (November 30th of every odd year), renewing monitors will not need to send monitor approval documents to WebCE. WebCE receives the renewed information directly from the state. For monitors that are newly approved during the approval term, the monitor approval information will need to be faxed into WebCE before the student can take the final exam. Monitors not of file with WebCE will not be allowed to proctor a WebCE exam.
  • Exam rules: The final exam is closed book, and no outside information may be used to complete the exam. The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. If the final exam is not passed on the first attempt, students have an unlimited number of retakes.

CE Carryover Allowance

Excess CE hours are not allowed to be carried forward to the next 2-year license term.

Course Repetition Rules

A licensee cannot ever repeat a course for credit.

Certificate of Completion

MyCEonline/ WebCE provides online, printable certificates of completion in New York. Certificates of completion will be available to print online immediately after the final exam is passed. The licensee must keep a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her files for 5 years.

CE Completion Reporting

Next-day Reporting- MyCEonline/ WebCE reports course completions to the State of New York every business day.

Licensees can renew their license online here. Licensees must enter course completion information, found on the certificate of completion, onto the license renewal application.

CE Exemptions

The following individuals are exempt from CE requirements:

  • Licensees who hold an independent adjuster license
  • Licensees who hold a bail bond licens

  • Licensees who hold a viatical settlement license

Producers must submit the original certificates of completion, along with a $1.00 per credit hour fee, directly to the New Mexico Insurance Division prior to the license expiration date.

Producers are exempt from continuing education if one of the following is true:

  • The producer holds a limited license.
  • The producer has been an agent, solicitor, nonresident agent, or nonresident broker for 25 years or more.

  • The producer is an agent of a fraternal benefit society.
  • The nonresident producer has met the CE requirements of his or her home state.
